The AI Experience Designer is an emerging design specialism that addresses one of the most underinvested problems in enterprise AI: the experience of humans working with AI systems. Most AI products fail not because the model is wrong but because the interaction design is wrong — users don't understand what the AI can do, don't trust its outputs, don't know when to override it and don't have the mental models to use it effectively. The AI Experience Designer fixes this. Role & Responsibilities: • Design human-AI interaction patterns for enterprise AI products: how users prompt AI systems, how AI outputs are presented and explained, how users provide feedback and how AI assists without replacing human judgment • Define AI transparency and explainability experiences: designing interfaces that help users understand AI confidence levels, data sources, reasoning and limitations — in ways that build appropriate trust without overwhelming with technical detail • Create conversational UI and agent interaction design: designing the conversation flows, persona, tone and error handling for AI assistants and autonomous agents that users interact with daily • Research how users actually behave with AI systems: conducting usability studies, analysing AI interaction logs, identifying where users over-trust, under-trust or abandon AI features • Define AI onboarding experiences: designing the learning journey that helps users build accurate mental models of what AI can do, when to trust it and when to verify • Work with responsible AI teams on fairness UX: designing how AI limitations, potential biases and uncertainty are communicated honestly to users • Build and maintain a design system for AI components: loading states, streaming text patterns, feedback mechanisms, confidence indicators and human oversight interfaces • Stay current with AI interaction research: emerging patterns in human-AI collaboration, agentic UI design, multimodal interfaces and the design implications of increasingly capable AI systems Required Skills & Experience: • 5+ years of UX or product design experience with at least 2 years focused on AI-powered products • Deep understanding of human-AI interaction challenges: overtrust, undertrust, automation bias, out-of-loop syndrome and appropriate reliance • Proficiency with design tools: Figma, Framer or equivalent — with a portfolio demonstrating AI product design specifically • User research skills: you run studies with AI products, analyse interaction data and translate findings into design improvements • Understanding of conversational design: dialogue flow design, entity extraction UX, error recovery and persona development for AI assistants • Familiarity with AI capabilities and limitations: you understand what LLMs can and cannot do well enough to design for failure modes, not just success cases • Experience with accessibility in AI interfaces: screen reader compatibility for streaming text, cognitive accessibility for AI explanations What We Offer: • Specialist design role at the frontier of human-AI interaction • Salary £75,000–£100,000 based on experience • Remote-first with product team travel • Direct collaboration with AI engineering and responsible AI teams The AI Experience Designer solves the hardest UX problem in technology today: how do you design for a system whose outputs are probabilistic, whose reasoning is opaque and whose capabilities are changing faster than users can adapt? If you have designed AI products that users actually trust and use effectively, this role is yours.
