A major European bank is hiring a Data Governance Lead to establish and operate their enterprise data governance programme on Microsoft Purview, integrated with Microsoft Fabric as the bank's new analytics platform. You will combine technical expertise with stakeholder engagement to embed governance practices that meet regulatory requirements and enable trusted data use across the organisation. Role & Responsibilities: • Design and implement the enterprise data governance framework using Microsoft Purview: data catalogue, classification, lineage and access policies • Configure and maintain Purview integration with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse and SQL Server sources • Define and enforce data classification standards aligned to GDPR, BCBS 239 and internal data policy • Build and manage a business glossary, data dictionary and ownership model across business domains • Work with data stewards, data owners and engineering teams to improve data quality and lineage completeness • Design attribute-based access control policies in Purview to enforce column-level and row-level data access • Produce governance metrics and reports for the Chief Data Officer and regulatory stakeholders • Drive the data literacy and data stewardship programme across the bank Required Skills & Experience: • 5+ years of data governance, data management or senior data engineering experience • Hands-on Microsoft Purview experience: scanning, classification, lineage, glossary and policy enforcement • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric governance features: workspace roles, OneLake access and Fabric Purview integration • Understanding of banking data regulations: GDPR, BCBS 239, DORA • Experience working with business stakeholders at senior level to establish data ownership and stewardship • DAMA CDMP or equivalent data management certification preferred • Azure Data Engineer (DP-203/DP-700) or Fabric (DP-600) certification is a plus What We Offer: • Hybrid role — 3 days in Amsterdam office, 2 days remote • Salary €80,000–€100,000 based on experience • Highly strategic role with direct CDO exposure and regulatory significance • Long-term programme with budget for tooling, training and team growth This is a senior governance role for someone who can navigate both the technical configuration of Purview and the organisational change management needed to make governance stick in a complex financial institution.
