The GitHub Copilot Workflow Lead is a senior engineering role responsible for transforming how an entire engineering organisation uses AI coding tools — not just deploying GitHub Copilot Enterprise, but designing the workflows, standards, training programmes and measurement systems that turn an AI tool licence into a genuine engineering capability uplift. Role & Responsibilities: • Own the GitHub Copilot rollout strategy across the engineering organisation: phased deployment, team onboarding, usage standards and success metrics • Design Copilot workflow patterns for different engineering contexts: backend development, frontend development, data engineering, DevOps and test automation — each with specific prompt strategies and quality gates • Build the internal Copilot training programme: hands-on workshops, prompt pattern libraries, video walkthroughs and peer learning structures • Define and enforce AI-assisted code quality standards: what Copilot output requires mandatory review, what can be accepted faster, how generated code is documented and attributed • Measure Copilot adoption and impact: tracking usage metrics, developer velocity, code quality indicators and developer satisfaction — building the evidence base for continued investment • Evaluate GitHub Copilot Enterprise features: custom models, knowledge bases, Copilot Extensions and Copilot Workspace — piloting and rolling out capabilities that deliver genuine value • Work with security and compliance teams to establish acceptable use policies: data handling, code confidentiality, IP implications and regulatory constraints on AI-assisted development • Build the internal Copilot champions community: identifying enthusiastic adopters, amplifying their practices and creating peer-to-peer learning momentum Required Skills & Experience: • 6+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in a senior or lead engineering role • Expert-level GitHub Copilot knowledge: you have used Copilot Enterprise, understand its configuration options and have run adoption programmes • Deep understanding of software engineering workflows across multiple disciplines — you can design Copilot integration patterns for backend, frontend, data and DevOps teams • Experience with developer enablement or engineering culture programmes — you have changed how engineers work, not just deployed tools • GitHub Enterprise administration experience: organisation settings, policy management, SSO and audit log analysis • Strong data skills: measuring developer productivity, building adoption dashboards and presenting business cases for AI tooling investment • GitHub certifications (Copilot, Actions, Advanced Security) are a strong advantage What We Offer: • Senior role with organisation-wide impact on engineering productivity • Salary £85,000–£110,000 based on experience • Remote-first with team travel • Direct partnership with CTO and engineering leadership The GitHub Copilot Workflow Lead is the person who makes the difference between a Copilot licence that gets used and one that transforms engineering output. If you have run developer enablement programmes and understand what it takes to change engineering culture, this role is yours.
