A leading UK financial services firm is hiring a Lead Data Engineer to spearhead their migration to Microsoft Fabric. You will be the technical lead for a team of 4–6 engineers, driving the adoption of Fabric workloads including Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Pipelines and Power BI integration. Role & Responsibilities: • Lead the end-to-end design and delivery of the Microsoft Fabric data platform • Architect Lakehouse and Data Warehouse solutions using OneLake and Delta Parquet format • Build and optimise data pipelines using Fabric Data Factory and Spark Notebooks • Define the governance framework using Microsoft Purview integrated with Fabric • Collaborate with Power BI developers to deliver semantic models and reporting layers • Drive the migration from Azure Synapse Analytics and legacy SQL Server environments • Conduct code reviews, set engineering standards and mentor junior team members • Engage directly with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions Required Skills & Experience: • 5+ years of data engineering experience, with proven Microsoft stack expertise • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Pipelines, Notebooks) • Strong SQL and Python skills; experience with DAX is a plus • Working knowledge of Azure services: Synapse, ADF, ADLS, Azure DevOps • Experience leading or mentoring a team of engineers • Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer (DP-600) certification preferred • Financial services domain knowledge is advantageous What We Offer: • Remote-first role with occasional travel to UK offices (expenses covered) • Salary £70,000–£90,000 based on experience • Private healthcare, pension contribution and annual learning budget • Direct influence on the firm's AI and data strategy for the next 3–5 years This is a rare opportunity to be the technical authority on a greenfield Fabric platform for a regulated financial institution — a role that combines hands-on engineering with genuine technical leadership.
